Open Day is an opportunity for students to experience university for the first time and get a feel for what they want to do after school.

The University of Sydney is opening its doors on Saturday 25 August to all prospective students, their families, and friends, for our biggest event of the year - Open Day.

With more than 140 mini-lectures run across the day from our 16 faculties, Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to discover the diverse range of study options on offer as well as general information to help you on your way to studying at Sydney.

Faculty representatives, careers experts and admissions advisers will also be on hand to provide one-on-one advice and answer any questions you might have at information stalls in the Quadrangle.

"We know that many students may not have a clue of what they want to do after the HSC and Open Day is designed to help them through this tough and complex decision making process," says Kaveh Ghezel, Undergraduate Student Recruitment Manager at the University of Sydney.

"My number one tip is to come to the day with an open mind and plan ahead so you can attend as many talks and activities as possible. You may find something new that you have never considered before.

"Every choice you make has an end result so research will be your best friend through course selection," Ghezel says.

Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to explore the University of Sydney, with regular tours throughout the day around the campus, faculty buildings, museums and residential colleges.

If you're thinking ahead, why not drop in to see some of our partner firms for careers advice on what they look for in graduates. Speak to representatives from Microsoft, Ernst & Young, PWC, Reckitt Benckiser and Thales.

It wouldn't be Open Day without hands-on activities like worm herding, extracting DNA from bacteria, or making ice cream using liquid nitrogen!

The Engineering Precinct will display the clever and curious robots we work with at the University, as well as a racing car built by our students, the latest in touch screen computing, and a free barbecue.

You might squeeze that in between catching performances from some of our 200 clubs and societies on the Front Lawns.

And for the parents and guardians, we will help you navigate the admissions and enrolment process and provide you with all you need to know to help your child through the HSC and on to university life with a seminar at 11am.

If the thought of your child starting university is making you think about studying too, why not explore your study options at the Postgraduate Expo from 12pm.

To juggle your time on the day, you can download the Open Day app and create your own personalised program, or ask one of our friendly Student Ambassadors if you get lost on the day.
