Professor Edward J. Blakely: Alumni of the Year for the University of California at Riverside
6 February 2007
Ed will be attending the Alumni Awards of Distinction banquet. The event will be held Saturday, April 21 on the UCR campus.
The UCR Alumni Association established their awards program in 1986 to recognize alumni who have made a difference in the lives of others through outstanding professional, personal and civic contributions. Past honorees include a Nobel Prize winner, a U.S. Ambassador, a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist, presidents of institutions of higher education, scientists and civic, business and community leaders.
Professor Blakely has been appointed to head up the reconstruction of New Orleans. The University and the City of New Orleans have come to an agreement which will allow him to continue his teaching and research commitments with the University. The Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning, with assistance from the City of New Orleans, has rearranged resources and key staff to allow Professor Blakely to carry out this important work.
