The Environmental Brief

22 August 2008

Professor Richard Hyde of the Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Design launched his latest book The Environmental Brief: Pathways for Green Design last night. With a warm introduction from Professor Warren Julian, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning Dean, Professor Hyde gave a brief outline of the book with his fellow authors and then fielded questions from the audience. As Professor Hyde recounts "The Environmental Brief looks at an ethical approach to design and a move towards a sustainable model. Essentially we are arguing that the design process needs to change and adapt to effectively address the changing needs of sustainable buildings."

Written in collaboration with Steve Watson, Wendy Cheshire and Mark Thomson, the book is the first of its kind as it explores the emerging fields of sustainable and environmental design by catering for both a student and professional audience. By refocusing the notion of building design into an environmental framework, The Environmental Brief is poised to be an essential resource for anyone working within the architectural and built environment fields.
