The Sydney University research team of Raja Mahanama, Aydin Berenjian, John Kavanagh and Fariba Dehghani won the Best Student Paper Award of a prestigious International Engineering Conference (The World Congress on Engineering and Computer Schence) in 2011, for their paper entitled "Effects of Inoculation Loading and Substrate Bed Thickness on the Production of Menaquinone-7 via Solid State Fermentation."
The NCRIS Biofuels Research Pilot Plant is launched as the first semi-automated, continuous-flow kilo-scale research facility of its kind in Australia.
PhD candidate Mariam Darestani has been awarded the prestigious Amelia Earhart Fellowship from Zonta International and will receive 10,000 USD to continue her research on anti-fouling piezoelectric membranes.
