Civil Engineering Foundation Seminar on Chatswood Epping Rail Link
23 August 2006
Sydney Graduate Tim Burns (First Class Honours and University Medal 2001), now Senior Project Manager for Thiess gave a most informative presentation to a near packed house on the construction of the tunnels for the Chatswood-Epping Rail Link.
Thiess-Hochtief Joint Venture was responsible for the construction of the Chatswood to Epping Rail Link. It was a fascinating presentation of this very large scale infrastructure project which now is nearing completion. The presentation focused on the construction techniques and challenges employed on the Rail Link, one of the world's great railway constructions which includes 24 km of tunnel and 4 underground railway stations.
It was great to see nearly 60 Sydney Civil Engineering students staying late after normal lectures to hear this presentation, along with staff, research students and industry representatives from the Civil Engineering Foundation.
