Sydney's Desalination Project

14 May 2008

The NSW Committee of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), ICE, and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies co-ordinated a public lecture for students and staff and practising engineers to hear about Sydney's Desalination Project given by Mike Watts, Project Manager. Aproximately 100 people attended.

The lecture provided an overview of Sydney's 250ML/day seawater desalination plant project from feasibility to commencement of construction. It addressed a number of the planning issues and solutions in the context of the NSW Governments water strategy. The basics of the technology and the way it is being applied in this situation was discussed with an opportunity to focus on particular areas of interest to the attendees.

The details of this multidisciplinary projectwere of interest to all engineers across the Faculty.
