Well Done to the Class of 2008

Friday May16 marked an important day in the careers of nearly 100 young men and women who graduated with their civil engineering degrees.

The day began with a special early brunch in the Civil Engineering Drawing Office. Speeches were given by Malcolm Boyd on behalfof the Civil Engineering Graduates Association, and Peter Thornton,President of the Civil Engineering Foundation.

Finally students who had achieved academic excellence and had received prizes during the degree were given certificates.

Guest of Honour at the breakfast was Mr Michael Easson.He is Chairman of the EG Property Group. Michael's extensive experience in infrastructure and property includes recent directorships with the Macquarie Infrastructure Group, specialising in private toll roads in the UK, Australia and North America (1996-2007).

Mr Easson presented the certificates for our two newest prizes in Project management - the Easson-Gaha prizes, for overall performance in Project management and also the best thesis in that field.


Students then made their way to the Great Hall for the Graduation Ceremony and received their degrees from the Chancellor. The occasional adress was delivered by Professor John Hopcroft, Professor of Engineering and Applied Mechanics at Cornell University, in New York State, USA.


Smiles all round were seen as the Academic Procession left the Great Hall followed by the new graduates who are now all University of Sydney Civil Engineering Alumni.
