Revealing The Secret River at University of Sydney

14 April 2011

On Tuesday 12 April, Compass was delighted to welcome nine Year 11 and Year 12 students from Kogarah High School's English class who were invited to join the University's First-Year Book Club author talk and Q & A. The high school students made a special trip during their school holidays and were treated to a book reading and meeting with Kate Grenville, author of The Secret River an HSC text.

The book is part of a trilogy about early Australia that plunges the reader into the experience of frontier life. In the grandeur of The University of Sydney's Great Hall, students were captivated by the author's interesting stories about her book research. She unreservedly shared her personal journey and family association with the book. The author also addressed some audience burning questions about her intriguing novel.

At the end of the session, students were lining up to get a photo opportunity and book signing from Kate Grenville. Each student also received a free copy of the book courtesy of University of Sydney Student Support Services.
