Year 3 Introduction to University Day Post-lesson

16 June 2011

Close to 300 students from Wattawa Heights, Picnic Point, Kogarah, Marrickville, Yagoona and Wilkins Public Schools were involved in the post-lesson for the Year Three Introduction to University Day throughout April and May. During the lesson, students were given the opportunity think more about what higher education might mean for them and reflect positively on their experiences at the University.

The post-lesson is the last phase of a 3-phase program that consists of:

Phase 1: Teacher delivered pre-lesson to develop a context for the event
Phase 2: Year Three Introduction to University Day
Phase 3: Compass delivered post-lesson to make positive connections between their time at the University and what higher education could mean for them.

We feel very encouraged by students' enthusiasm and knowledge. The number of students who were able to answer questions on higher education terminologies and higher education in general was very impressive! Each student received a Certificate of Attendance during the Compass Year 3 graduation ceremony. Students also participated in a drawing and story competition as part of the student evaluation activity. The winner from each school received cool Compass T-shirt, storybook courtesy of Co-Op bookshop and Certificate of Achievement. Some of best entries are now published on the Compass photo galleries.
