Teachers impress at film production workshops
22 February 2012
Last week, 27 teachers from Compass partner schools attended professional development sessions for the Film Production and Editing and Stop Motion Animation programs. Film Production and Editing is entering its fourth year, while Stop Motion is a new program that draws on the expertise of facilitator Jack McGrath, a Sydney College of the Arts lecturer and filmmaker. These programs, which are embedded in schools and help meet the students' curriculum outcomes in Drama and Literacy, cover pre- and post-production techniques as well as the shooting process itself. They also allow students gain experience working cooperatively in groups as they develop and deliver a narrative through the production of a short film. The development sessions are designed to inspire and assist teachers in facilitating the six-week program in their school. The intensive sessions also help teachers further develop their information and communication technology skills. The sessions cover the process from developing initial concepts through to shooting and editing movies.
Jack and the Compass staff were very impressed with the movies and animations produced by the teachers in a short space of time, and by the teachers' enthusiasm and creativity. In turn, the teachers found the sessions both valuable and enjoyable:
- "An excellent day - I feel inspired and stimulated"
- "Jack is great! Very inspiring and passionate about his craft"
- "Very good course…useful and interesting"
