Sustainability a key attribute of 2012 Occupational Therapy program

29 May 2012

University of Sydney students in the Faculty of Health Sciences' Occupational Therapy (OT) program have settled in to their practical placements at Kogarah PS, Bexley PS, Condell Park PS and Wattawa Heights PS.

Now in its third year, the OT program continues to provide much-needed OT assistance to our partner schools. OT students work with both the whole class and small groups of school students, assisting teachers in identifying students who are at risk, providing valuable advice to parents, and supporting students' individual needs.

This year the program will extend into offering professional development sessions for teachers, a significant step towards embedding the program into schools for the long term. OT students will also develop and deliver short interactive presentation addressing the main concerns for children's development at school. All sessions will be delivered using connected classroom facilities.

Over time, OT students have developed fantastic fact sheets for teachers and parents. With this extensive library of useful resources, Compass is launching an Occupational Therapy fact sheet series, available for all schools and all parents to use. Schools will be encouraged to download and distribute to teachers, place in the staff room, insert into parents' newsletters, or distribute at parents' night for parents to take home. The OT fact sheets will be posted on Compass website regularly - watch this space!
