Development of the 2010 Compass Volunteer program 'Word Up' is well and truly underway with Compass staff hosting 12 Compass school representatives at Social Inclusion headquarters throughout November and December to discuss each schools' preferred volunteer program requirements.
On 19th November 90 year 9 students from Condell Park High School visited the University of Sydney. This was their first visit as part of the Compass program.
22 teaching staff from Kogarah PS, Athelstane, PS, Wilkins PS, Picnic Point PS, Condell Park PS, Condell Park HS, Yagoona PS, Marrickville HS and Marrickville IEC said that they felt "reinvigorated and recharged" after attending a Drama and Literacy workshop developed and facilitated by Professor Robyn Ewing, Acting Dean, Faculty of Education and Social Work for the Compass program earlier this week.
Year 10 is synonymous with career exploration and last week the University of Sydney's Yr 10 Compass Career Day provided 57 students from Condell Park, Kogarah and Marrickville High Schools the chance to explore their strengths in workshops aimed at focusing on careers that suit their personality and strengths.
We have received confirmation that the Sydney College of Arts (SCA) will be able to deliver film-editing workshops for our schools next year. At this stage the SCA will be able to deliver two workshops per term for 2010.
