Staying connected - how to access your work when you're away from your desk

22 June 2010

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you are in a class or at a meeting and need to access documents but aren't quite sure how to connect to your shared drive? Or perhaps you are at another University and want to access your research data? Perhaps you're in transit and need to check an urgent email but only have access to a public computer?

Whether you are roaming around campus, travelling interstate or heading overseas, staying connected is easy if you know how.

Between 1-2pm onTuesday 29 June 2010, ICT is hosting an IT Matters seminar to cover the basics of how to access work-related information when you are away from your desk. The seminar will include:

  • what you can and can't access,
  • what is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and why it's your friend,
  • what you need to prepare before you leave campus,
  • how to get started,
  • common pitfalls, and
  • an opportunity for questions and answers.

This is another IT Matters lunchtime seminar designed by ICT so staff can find out how to get more out of the University's IT services. Each seminarincludes helpful hints and an opportunity to ask questions, so come along, bring your lunch, listen to ICT experts and ask your questions.

Tea and coffee will be provided, so please register for catering purposes. Email ICTif you have ideas for future seminars.
