Dell is now the sole preferred supplier of University computers

The University's contracts with our two preferred computer suppliers (Lenovo and Dell) have recently changed.

Dell has proven to be the more preferred supplier and counts for over 90 percent of the University PC fleet. As a result, we will not extend our contract with Lenovo. This change has been approved in line with University policy. Dell has agreed to a 12 month extension of their contract and will be the sole preferred supplier for University computers. Once Dell's contract expires in September 2012, the University will go to market to search for new opportunities.

As Dell has been the more preferred supplier, we anticipate this change will have minimal impact on the procurement choices of University staff.

We should also emphasise that while staff will no longer be able to purchase new Lenovo computers, support for existing computers will remain the same until Lenovo machines are phased out as part of the standard three-year lease cycle. Customers should continue to contact the ICT Helpdesk for Lenovo support queries. Lenovo will also continue to honour the warranty agreements for computers that were purchased through their current contract with the University.

The ICT Support Website, Ask Sydney - ICT will also be updated to reflect the change in supplier and information added to notify customers of existing warranty agreements with Lenovo.
