Where can I get access to computers and printing on campus? Do I have to pay when I browse the internet? Is there someone who can help me set up my laptop so I can access the wireless network? What do I do if I can't log into MyUni or Sydney Mail? Read this guide if you want to know more about the IT services available to students at the University of Sydney!
1. Need a computer?
The University has 16 Access Labs across several campuses that provide free access to computers with software such as Microsoft Office 2007, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Endnote. All labs have black and white printing and some are equipped with colour printing and scanning facilities. Cash is not accepted at Access labs - printing is charged to your UniKey account. You can view lab locations, opening hours, software details, and how many computers are available in each lab by visiting sydney.edu.au/ict/switch/labs/
2. Need internet access?
You can access the internet on the Access Lab computers, an on-campus wireless connection, or a dial-up network from home. Students get 6MB of free internet browsing per day, and unlimited free access to University websites and services (such as the MyUni student portal, WebCT, Blackboard and Sydney Mail). If you reach your 6MB quota, the standard web charge for external web browsing is 1.5c/MB. These costs are charged to your UniKey account. 3. What about wifi?
If you've got a laptop or wifi-enabled smart phone, you can connect to the University's wifi network. You'll need to setup your device and install the Cisco VPN client before you can access internet services.
