Windows 7 now available for new computers
8 December 2010
Staff can now have Windows 7, Microsoft's latest operating system, installed on any new Dell computer.
While Windows XP remains the University's standard operating system, staff now have the option of ordering new Dell computers with Windows 7. There are no plans at this stage to install Windows 7 on previously purchased computers.
Areas that order computers through ICT may do so simply by checking the 'Windows 7' option on the standard online order form. Areas that procure directly from Dell should clearly indicate on the External Requisition that Windows 7 is required, or should select the appropriate model marked 'Windows 7' via the PeopleSoft eProcurement system. Dell makes Windows 7 computers to order and these will generally be delivered within 7-10 business days.
Windows 7 is Microsoft's newest operating system and some older software applications may have compatibility issues. To help you make your decision ICT will provide information about the Windows 7 operating system, compatible applications, and how to place your order on IT Assist.
