Login disruption to eLearning system on 28 February

3 March 2011

Over the Christmas break, the University's eLearning system was upgraded from WebCT to the latest version of Blackboard. The new eLearning system has enhanced teaching features which provide a better learning experience for students.

On 28 February, the first day of Semester 1, there was unprecedented concurrent usage of more than 2,250 students for much of the day. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the login system which meant that there were two thirty-minute periods where logging in was either very slow or impossible. We took corrective actions at 6.30pm that evening and access to the e-learning system has been unaffected since. It coped well with the evening peak (4,300 students at 9pm)

We apologise for any inconvenience which occurred on the first day of semester; and are gratified that our Learning systems are now providing enhanced services for record numbers of students.
