Charity Night |
Charity Night is a fun sociable night in which residents, staff and SUIHAA get together in the Wool Room to raise money for a charity of choice. This year the charity chosen was OXFAM. Every year IHMA thinks of different ways to raise money. This year money was raised through a raffle, eating contest and servant auction.
The biggest money maker of the night was the servant auction. Residents volunteered their services, such as belly dancing lessons or a self cooked candlelight dinner, to the most generous bidder. Some of the most popular servants were Adam, Patrick and Jorge who promised a night out at a Mexican restaurant, all inclusive!
The eating contest is truly something for people with strong stomachs, to participate as well as watch! Anyone interested could bet on one of ten candidates who competed in a three round eating contest leaving only one winner. Participants gave it their best to try and win, which sometimes led to them forgetting their table manners. The winner of the eating competition was Jorge, who stunned everyone by the incredible speed in which he scoffed down food.
Via a silent auction attendees were able to place bids for a variety of items on offer. The top item was an MP3 player donated by Office Works, which alongside all other items raked in cash for the charity.
Charity Night was a huge success in which IH can proudly announce to have raised over$ 2000 for OXFAM. Thank you very much to everyone who helped organise the great event and especially to everyone who participated and helped raise the money.
