On Sunday, 21st November 2010, in the Wool Room at International House, the Chair of Council, Denise North, presented Ms Rosamond (Wood) Madden and Professor Sid Gray with a Fellowship of International House for their outstanding contributions to the House over many years.
A group of 16 residents from International House travelled to the Blue Mountains for an overnight retreat on the 4th of September to enjoy the wonderful scenery and breathtaking views.
International House in partnership with the USYD Table Tennis Club organized the first Table Tennis Open Competition on the 12th of September this year.
Stargazing was a great chance to get away from the busy life of a university student, enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest while seeing the stars close up through telescopes.
The first formal dinner of semester two was a great success, as we welcomed the new and old residents from every corner of the Earth. International House celebrated Foundation Day by inviting Michael Hwang (biography below), an alumni of International House and the first ever IHMA president, to give a speech about internationalism, one of the core values of IH.
May has been an exciting month for all IH residents as yet another fantastic event took place last Saturday. The International Food Fair had been the main subject of discussions around the House for the past week or so as the 18 teams (representing countries from Greece to India, South Africa to Japan and many, many more) prepared and planned for the big day.
On the night of the 9th of May, the Wool Room was filled with anticipated chattering. Residents knew what was in store for them would make it a night to remember! Fans brought down their carefully crafted banners with the names of the 3 IH Idol finalists who made it through the tough selections of the semi-finals.
Each year at IH, the Harbour Cruise is one of the most highly anticipated events - for a good reason! This year the IHMA organized a 3 hour cruise on the MV John Cadman III, showcasing some of Sydney Harbour's most stunning night scenery to IH residents, alumni, and guests.
This year residents had the opportunity to show off their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit by participating in the Napkin Competition. Congratulations to Siaw-Yean Woon, Sumit Gupta, and Yixuan(Neil) Chen who has won a chance to participate in the Sydney Innovation Tour!
On Saturday 17th of April a group of IH residents set off by mini bus to explore the countryside, wineries, natural attractions and beaches of the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra.
After the first successful dinner featuring food from the Pacific, the second round of the "Around the World in Seven Dinners" series again provided a taste of the cultures of South America.
At International House, we're all about sharing our different cultures and showcasing our diversity. The Flag Ceremony has always been a traditional event celebrating the variety of cultural backgrounds we come from.
International House celebrated International Women's Day on Friday 5th of March with a speech by the Hon. Dr. Kay Patterson, an alumna of International House and a former senator.
