Conquest IX tour takes audiences by storm
9 July 2010
Students from The Con have been taking audiences young and old by storm on a concert tour of the NSW Southern Highlands and South Coast from June 17-July 4.
The tour is one of four conducted every year by the Ensemble Studies Unit under the leadership of David Miller OAM. The tour, entitled Conquest, is now in its ninth year and has grown to include concerts in Nowra, Mittagong, Bombala, Cooma, Merimbula and Narooma as well as a number of small schools in the area that would never normally be given such an experience.
As David says, "the school visits in particular are of enormous value not only to the children but also to our students in their progress towards professionalism. The student musicians are experts in breaking down barriers between performers and audience."
The four piece ensemble comprises Nattanan Low on clarinet, Bridget Patterson mezzo-soprano, Amy Putt piano and Adam Szabo, cello. They performed a varied program of music by Beethoven, Poulenc, Brahms, Muczynski, Schumann and McCabe as well as a specially commissioned piece by Sydney Conservatorium of Music staff member Stephen Yates, Cavatina- "I am not an animal". The students genuine love of performance was apparent to all who saw them play.
