Four of the six finalists for one of Australia's most prestigious singing scholarships to be decided this weekend have strong links to The Con.

The quartet comprises graduates Simone Easthope and Renee Martin, and current students Erika Simons and Naomi Johns, all of Sydney.

They will vie for the Lady Fairfax 2010 New York Scholarship, along with James Roser and Adrian Tamburini, at a public recital at The Con on Sunday.

The winner will receive $43,000 to travel and live in New York, coaching from some of the world's eminent opera tutors, and also have the opportunity to audition for major opera companies.

The scholarship was initiated in 1947 by Lady Mary Fairfax.

"We wish all six finalists the very best, for what is a fabulous scholarship," said Dean and Principal, Professor Kim Walker.

"To have four finalists that have close ties with this institution is terrific and yet another vote of confidence in The Con musical program, its teachers and the enormous talent of its students and graduates."

The public recital starts at 4pm.
