Dell is now the sole preferred supplier of University computers

The University's contracts with our two preferred computer suppliers (Dell and Lenovo) have recently changed.

Since the University's contract with Dell began, Dell has proven to be the more preferred supplier with 90% of the University computers procured from this vendor. As a result, the University has decided not to extend Lenovo's contract and Dell have agreed to a 12 month extension on their contract. This change has been approved in line with the University's policies. As a result, Dell will be the sole preferred supplier for University computers. Once Dell's contract expires in September 2012, the University will go out to market to search for new opportunities.

The benefits of this extension are:

  • Significant discounts (over 50%) of list pricing
  • Continuation of supply from a Tier 1 manufacturer
  • Early payment incentive
  • Managing situations of supply constraint.

While staff will no longer be able to purchase new Lenovo computers, support for existing computers will remain the same until Lenovo machines are phased out as part of the standard 3-year lease cycle. Customers should continue to contact the ICT Helpdesk for Lenovo support queries. Lenovo will also continue to honour the warranty agreements for computers that were purchased through their current contract with the University.
