It is with great sadness that we note the recent death of a member of the University of Sydney's marine ecology research community. Dr Paris Goodsell unexpectedly died last week.
Paris was a great young scientist with talent, enthusiasm and insight. She was a valued researcher amongst her peers and an excellent postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Ecological Research on Coastal Cities at The University of Sydney from 2004 - 2008. In her work with Professors Underwood and Chapman, she challenged poorly thought out ideas, developed new models for ecological patterns and produced some very good science. She had a significant involvement in mentoring students and her infectious enthusiasm for ecological research in the sea helped many an honours student push themselves to do better science. She had recently managed to combine her passion for sustainable use of natural resources and her analytical skills as a scientist by securing the role of sustainability advisor to Sydney Fish Markets.
We should not forget that Paris' other great contribution to our community was that of a ball of social energy. She could be relied on to lift one's spirits, enliven any meeting and make our lives better.
She was a colleague, friend and lovely person.
