Thesis abstract:

«p»This thesis aims to find out how digital platforms have impacted the Australian book publishing industry and each stage of the book publishing process – from manuscript acquisition to distribution, measurements of success, and book reception – as well as the value chain, from authors to distributors to readers. This will be analysed over three timeframes: 1998 to 2003, 2004 to 2014, and 2015 to today. The study will use the framework of platformisation as a way to analyse, decipher and interpret the economic, social and technological impact of platforms on publishing over time, and what it means for the production, circulation and influence of books as a cultural commodity.«/p»
