Thesis abstract:
«p»To fully understand political violence, it cannot be analysed divorced from its intrinsic links to gender, as there are ‘complex relationships between gender, gender-based stereotypes and political violence’ (Sjoberg, 2012). In analysing political violence, feminists have identified gender bias to be inherent in fundamental concepts of international relations, such as the state, violence, war, peace, and security, thus, urging re-definition to address such bias (Sjoberg, 2012). This research aims to understand the gendered nature of violent extremism in the Maldives. In doing so, this research follows a feminist methodological approaches that puts reflexivity at forefront throughout the research process.«/p»
