Thesis abstract:
«p»People with disabilities are vulnerable and stigmatized. They are considered invisible in society and underrepresented in the media. Discussions of social movements in developing countries like Indonesia rarely include the disability rights movement. Social media platforms including Instagram become a powerful campaigning and advocacy tool for disability inclusion. This ethnographic study aims to shed more light on the lived experience of Instagram-based disability individual activists and diverse-led organisations in raising awareness of disability inclusion and sustainability in such an overlooked social media environment. The voices of diverse disability and non-disability participants will be merged through oral and visual methodologies across three study stages. The study hopes find to ways to make disability Instagram content more inclusive of and effective for people with disabilities in Indonesia. More importantly, to foster idealized disability representation, both self-represented and represented by others. «/p»
