I interned with NBC Universal, the largest broadcasting company in the world. I worked directly with television executives to form new strategies while learning more about how the business operates. The work improved my skills in business development and negotiation and gave me the confidence to pursue ambitious opportunities in the future.
Media and Communications undergraduate student

Planning on taking a Master’s or Graduate Diploma in Art Curating or Museum and Heritage Studies? You’ll have the opportunity to take part in a placement that brings your academic knowledge into a professional setting. Whether at a museum, gallery, library or even an archeological site, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a dynamic setting.
As Australia’s leading centre for cutting-edge cultural research, the Discipline of Gender and Cultural Studies offer’s the country’s only Master of Cultural Studies. As a future student, you’ll explore how culture shapes society and apply these insights through hands-on placements. Work with organisations like MLC Powerhouse Design Studio, ActionAid, and ACON to explore education, policy, community advocacy or the arts.
Whether you’re planning on studying an undergraduate or postgraduate teaching degree, you’ll receive comprehensive professional experience from classroom observation to practice teaching. Throughout your placement, you’ll be fully supported by experienced professionals. As a future student, you’ll develop your teaching skills and grow your professional expertise in schools or early childhood education services.
As a future undergraduate or postgraduate social work student, you’ll complete two exciting placements in professional social work settings, giving you substantial hands-on experience. For 1000 hours, you’ll work closely with placement organisations, applying your knowledge and theory developed throughout your course to real-world practice, guided by skilled practitioners.
Future School of Social and Political Sciences students will enjoy a dynamic Placement Program designed to empower students to tackle some of the world’s most pressing social, political and environmental challenges. Specialising in diverse areas such as Social Justice, Peace and Conflict, Public Policy, Political Economy, International Relations and International Security, our students build professional networks and are part of a global movement for positive impact. Placements are undertaken with leading partners including Parliament of NSW, UNICEF, Human Rights Watch, UN Women and Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation.
Are you a future Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Media and Communications) student? You’ll have the chance to take on a placement as part of your degree. These placements are your gateway to applying classroom knowledge in real-world settings, helping you sharpen your skills and smoothly transition into a professional media career.
Future Master of Publishing, Health Communication, Media Practice, Strategic Public Relations, or Digital Communication and Culture students can also apply for a placement that counts towards your degree.
Our students have landed exciting placements with Fairfax, ABC, SBS, top public relations firms, publishing houses, and in-house communication teams, setting the stage for their future careers in the media industry.
Looking to undertake a program at Sydney College of the Arts? You can enrich your degree with placement units that count towards your studies. You’ll gain hands-on experience at Australia’s top institutions, from museums, galleries, film production studios, or internationally renowned festivals and cultural events like Biennales and Sydney Film Festival.
