A recipient enrolled full-time will receive the scholarship valued at $20,000 per annum for up to 1 year.

A recipient enrolled part-time and approved to hold the scholarship on a part-time basis will receive the scholarship valued at $10,000 per annum for up to 2 years.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be an international student
  • have an unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in an undergraduate or a coursework master's CRICOS registered degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney

Note: If you are commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney, you are eligible if you have not previously held this scholarship. If applying with credit from partner institutions, your credit must not exceed 48 credit points for a bachelor degree or 24 credit points for a master's degree.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences International scholarship is awarded to exceptional international students from diversity priority markets.

1. Background

a. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences International Scholarship is awarded to exceptional international students from diversity priority markets.

2. Eligibility

a. This Scholarship is offered subject to applicants having an unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in an undergraduate or a coursework master's CRICOS registered degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney are eligible provided they have not previously held this Scholarship.

c. Applicants applying with credit from partner institutions are eligible provided their credit does not exceed:

I. 48 credit points if commencing an undergraduate degree, or

II. 24 credit points if commencing a coursework master's degree.

d. Applicants must be international students at the time of application.

e. No separate application is required for this Scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on academic merit as assessed from the applicant’s application for admission.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or their nominated delegate.

4. Value

a. A recipient enrolled full-time will receive the scholarship valued at $20,000 per annum for up to 1 year.

b. A recipient enrolled part-time and approved to hold the scholarship on a part-time basis will receive the scholarship valued at $10,000 per annum for up to 2 years.

c. The Scholarship value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each relevant semester.

d. Deferral of the scholarship is permitted for up to 12 months.

e. The Scholarship may not be suspended.

f. The Scholarship is transferable to another eligible degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

g. The Scholarship cannot be transferred to another Faculty or University.

h. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

i. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. The recipient must maintain a minimum semester average mark (SAM) of 65 each semester and have no outstanding fees.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. becomes a domestic student before the relevant census date,

III. commences part-time study without prior approval from the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,

IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

VI. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for a full-time recipient or $4,000 per annum or more for a part-time recipient for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or

VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
