A recipient enrolled full-time will receive the scholarship valued at $10,000 per annum for up to 1 year.

A recipient enrolled part-time will receive the scholarship valued at $5,000 per annum for up to 2 years.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • have an unconditional offer to study a postgraduate coursework degree at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
  • qualify as a domestic full fee paying student
  • not have a Commonwealth Supported Place for your degree
  • enrol in at least 12 credit points in your first semester.

Background

This scholarship was established in 2017 and funded by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to support commencing postgraduate coursework students with the costs of returning to tertiary study.

1. Background

a. Established in 2017, this Scholarship assists commencing postgraduate masters by coursework students with the costs of returning to tertiary study.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subject to applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission to study full time or part time in a postgraduate masters by coursework program offered by Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must be a domestic full-fee paying student.

c. Applicants must not be a recipient of a Commonwealth Supported place for their eligible degree.

d. This scholarship offer will be subject to the successful applicant enrolling in at least 12 credit points in their first semester.

e. No separate application is required for this scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. This Scholarship will be awarded based on previous tertiary academic results.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or their nominated delegate.

4. Value

a. A recipient enrolled full-time will receive the scholarship valued at $10,000 per annum for up to 1 year.

b. A recipient enrolled part-time will receive the scholarship valued at $5,000 per annum for up to 2 years.

c. The Scholarship value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each relevant semester.

d. Deferral and/or suspension of the scholarship is not permitted without prior approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

e. The Scholarship cannot be transferred to another non-postgraduate masters by coursework program within another school, faculty, or university.

f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

g. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.

b. Student must also be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points of study in each semester in which they hold the scholarship.
b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. is not enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points of study in each semester,

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

IV. transfers to another non-postgraduate masters by coursework program within another school, faculty or university,

V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

VI. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for a full-time recipient or $4,000 per annum or more for a part-time recipient for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or

VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
