Dr Luke Fischer

Luke Fischer is an Honorary Associate in Philosophy at the University of Sydney. A philosopher and poet, Fischer explores in his scholarly and creative works the interdisciplinary connections between philosophical thinking and poetic imagination.

Fischer’s areas of interest include philosophical poetics, aesthetics, phenomenology, hermeneutics, German romanticism and idealism, modernism, environmental philosophy, and ecopoetics. His philosophical interpretations of poetry have considered Rilke, Hölderlin, and Goethe, as well as contemporary Australian poets.

Fischer’s authored and edited books include the monograph The Poet as Phenomenologist: Rilke and the ‘New Poems (Bloomsbury, 2015), three collections of poetry––most recently A Gamble for my Daughter (Vagabond Press, 2022)––and the volumes The Seasons: Philosophical, Literary, and Environmental Perspectives, co-edited with David Macauley (SUNY Press, 2021) and Rilke’s ‘Sonnets to Orpheus’: Philosophical and Critical Perspectives, co-edited with Hannah Eldridge (Oxford University Press, 2019). With Dalia Nassar he co-edited the special section of the Goethe Yearbook 15 (2015) on ‘Goethe and Environmentalism’.
