Professor Yingjie Guo

Yingjie Guo is Professor in Chinese Studies. He received his BA and MA from Shanghai International Studies University, China and PhD from the University of Tasmania, Australia. His research focuses on China's cultural nationalism and Chinese cultural identities, and the discourse of class in post-Mao China. He is the author ofCultural Nationalism in Contemporary China: Searching for National identity under Reform and co-author ofNationalism, National Identity and Democratization in China. His recent publications include Unequal China: Political Economy and Culture Politics, Handbook of Class and Stratification in the People’s Republic of China, andLocal Elites in Post-Mao China.

My major current project is a manuscript about the transformation and transmission of cultural Chineseness. I am also working on several small projects related to the Chinese Communist Party’s class discourse, representations of class and nation in the post-Mao era, and recent debates in China about changes in school textbooks.
