Change your course

Change streams

If you change streams it is not guaranteed that you will receive credit for your previous study. If you intend to change streams you should try to do this as early as possible to ensure you are able to fulfil the requirements of your new stream. You'll need to follow the process outlined for your faculty or school.

If you’re undertaking the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science and want to transfer to or from the Advanced or Advanced Mathematics stream of the Bachelor of Science, you can email business.facultyservices@sydney.edu.au with your request.

If you are an undergraduate student and would like to change your stream, such as moving from a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) to a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), you will need to apply to the faculty using one of the online forms.

Your application will generally be assessed based on your Annual Average Mark (AAM).

If you want to change Bachelor of Music programs or principal study, for example Contemporary Music Practice to Digital Music and Media, or classical voice to classical piano, you need to register an audition then email con.apply@sydney.edu.au with your student number in the subject line.

Before you apply

It is important to understand the options available to you when considering transferring between streams. We recommend you speak with a faculty or school adviser first about options within your current degree.

If you transfer streams it isn't guaranteed that all your completed units of study will be counted towards the new stream. This could delay the completion date of your degree. You will need to pay any costs associated with taking additional units of study to meet the requirements of your new stream.

Make sure you check the Science Undergraduate Handbook so you understand the requirements of your new stream.

International Students

There are strict conditions that apply to Australian student visas. Variations to your enrolment (or changes to the length of your stay in Australia) will affect your visa. For more information, visit the Department of Home Affairs website.
