Biographical details

Dr. Cameron Logan is an urban and architectural historian and director of the postgraduate program in Heritage Conservation in the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. He is a member of the School’s Architectural Theory and History Research Group and the Urbanism Research Group. His work is concerned with civic culture, public architecture and the political, architectural and urban implications of heritage conservation practice.

He has a special interest in Washington, DC, and is the author of Historic Capital: Preservation, Race and Real Estate in Washington, DC (University of Minnesota Press, 2017). He also has a longstanding research interest in buildings for health and education and is co-author of Architecture and the Modern Hospital: Nosokomeion to Hygeia with Julie Wills and Philip Goad (forthcoming Routledge). He is currently a Chief Investigator on the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery project Campus: Building Modern Australian Universities.

A new project focuses on the architectural history of the urban crowd in the twentieth century. In the first half of 2018 (February to June) Cameron will be on a sabbatical (Special Studies Program) developing that project.

He has been a board member and is an active contributor to the programs of the Australian chapter of Docomomo and is a vocal advocate for rethinking and reimagining what we protect as heritage.
