Business and Labour History Group

The main objective of the Business and Labour History Group is to promote historical research and teaching within the University of Sydney Business School. The group organises seminars and conferences on historical themes in the areas of accounting history, business history, economic history and labour history. It also runs research projects funded by business and labour organisations on a variety of themes and welcomes industry proposals for projects relating to organisational and occupational histories.

Non-union employee representation in the workplace: debates and practice in Australia, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States 1914-1939 (2011-2012)

Investigator: Greg Patmore

This project uses comparative historical data to provide a clear direction for public policy in the development of frontier technology for employment relations infrastructure at the workplace level. This infrastructure would maximise workplace productivity, increase job satisfaction and provide a greater voice for employees in the workplace.
