Thesis title: Numerical Study on Multphase Interactions Using Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics

Thesis abstract:

It is crucial to understand the mechanical behaviour of unsaturated porous media under various loading, and it has a wide range of applications in civil and mining engineering, earthquake studies and geological science. The experimental studies have shown that it is difficult to quantify the effect of pore fluid on the behaviour of the porous media under impact loading, since the pore pressure is usually not uniformly distributed in the media. In this study, we develop a coarse-grained molecular model for modelling the multiphase interactions on the micro-scale, for the liquid-vapour-solid systems, with solid being deformable.
