Thesis title: Microstructural evolutions and mechanical properties of dissimilar structures manufactured by additive manufacturing.

Thesis abstract:

An Al-Ce-Mn alloy has been reported as high-temperature alloys and can retain its strength at high temperatures as the solubility of Ce is negligible in FCC Aluminium matrix resists coarsening at Elevated temperature.

This research aims to analyse phase stability at high temperatures as there is a contradiction in current literature regarding phase stability after heat treatment.

An Al-10Ce-7.7Mn(wt%) alloy will be manufactured by laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. The detailed characterization of microstructure will be analysed by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) at room temperature. Then alloy will be subjected to thermal exposure during in-situ heating in TEM for 60 minutes at 400℃, and phase identification will be made using X-ray Diffraction (XRD).
