The Sydney LLB - Costs and Fees

Local Commonwealth supported students are required to pay on a deferred or up-front basis for each unit of study they complete. Units of study are divided into three bands. The amount you are required to pay depends on the 'discipline group' to which the individual units are assigned i.e. law, arts, science, engineering or commerce.

A full-time, full-year local Commonwealth supported contribution for law is $9,080 in 2011 and $9,425 in 2012. Australian Citizens have the option to pay up-front and receive a 20 per cent discount*, or defer and pay the full amount through the tax system. Australian Permanent Residents and New Zealand Citizens must pay up-front. You will be required to select a payment option at enrolment. It is possible to change your payment option throughout your degree program. Most students who study at the University of Sydney are domestic and Commonwealth supported. These students have most of the cost of their education paid by the government but must also contribute themselves. In 2012 annual contributions will range from $5,648-$9,425 depending on the course and subjects studied. Visit the Fees website for further information.

International fee-paying students are required to pay fees for each unit of study they complete. A full-time law load costs $37,920 per year for an international student in 2012. Non-law units are calculated according to the unit fee for the relevant Faculty.

The estimated fee-paying rates for local and international students are listed below for Combined and Graduate Law respectively. It represents a summary of the annual fee from Years 1 to 3 or Years 1 to 4 in the case of Arts (Media & Communications)/Law, Engineering/Law and Information Technology/Law. In the final two years of Combined Law and throughout the entire course of Graduate Law, the annual course fee is $9,425 for local students and $37,920 for international students. The fee may be subject to change. Please consult the Law School directly for the latest fee information. All amounts are in Australian dollars.

*20% is the current (i.e. in 2011) discount received on upfront payments. Pending Government legislation, this discount rate may change to 10% from 2012.
