Biographical details

Professor Hunter is a rheumatology clinician researcher whose main research focus has been clinical and translational research in osteoarthritis (OA). He is a Professor of Medicine at University of Sydney, Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital and Consultant Rheumatologist at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. He is an Associate Editor for Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, an advisory editor for the premier rheumatology journal Arthritis Care and Research, an associate editor for BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders and part of the review committee for OA for the American College of Rheumatology, EULAR and OARSI scientific meetings. He is a board member for OARSI (since 2007) and established the OA Imaging Group and the annual imaging workshop (now up to its 6th Annual meeting with over 100 international multidisciplinary delegates each year). He is also a Chair of the International OA Biomarkers Workshop. Dr Hunter has over 250 peer reviewed publications in international journals, numerous book chapters, has co-authored a number of books, and recently completed his second book on self management strategies for the lay public.

Research interests

His research is focused on a number of key elements in OA including (but not limited to) the epidemiology of osteoarthritis, the application of imaging to better understand structure and function with application to both epidemiologic research and clinical trials, novel therapies in disease management and heath service system delivery of chronic disease management. 2011 Structural factors determining long term outcomes of acute knee injuries Hunter D Defence Health Foundation($47,000 over 1 year)
