Biographical details

Ali Khoddami received his BSc in Agricultural Engineering with distinction at Azad University (Isfahan Branch) (2001), MSc from University Putra Malaysia (2009) and PhD in Agriculture from the University of Sydney (2016). Ali is currently working as an agricultural scientist at the Plant Breeding Institute and School of Veterinary Science (Poultry Research Foundation), the University of Sydney. He has research collaborations with major Australian agricultural organisations including the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC), the Feed Grain Partnership (FGP) and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).

Research interests

Ali is an agricultural scientist specialising in the development of improved crop cultivars of sorghum, wheat and rice through a variety of experimental approaches. He works on the application of different varieties of sorghum, maize, barley and wheat in broiler diets to help broiler chicken producers select the best grain sources based on Australian environment and market price. His interest in developing crop varieties in collaboration with plant breeders supports the Australian agriculture industry. Recent projects have included: 1. Optimising steam-pelleting temperatures for sorghum-based broiler diets, [PRJ-003810] Principal Investigator: Assoc. Prof. Peter H Selle (USyd). 2. Evaluation of sodium bisulphite in sorghum-based broiler diets, [PRJ-007639] Principal Investigator: Assoc. Prof. Peter H Selle. 3. The factors influencing sorghum starch digestibility in broiler chickens, [PRJ-008695] Principal Investigator: Assoc. Prof. Peter H Selle. and he is currently contributing to the following projects: 1. Formulating broiler diets based on protein and starch digestive dynamics, [PRJ-010216] Principal investigator: Dr Sonia Y Liu. 2. Physiology and grain quality of Australian wild rices. Principal Investigators: Prof. Brian Atwell (Macquarie University) and Dr Thomas H Roberts (USyd). 3. Expanding options for sorghum. Principal Investigators: Prof. Chris Blanchard (Charles Sturt University), Dr Thomas H Roberts (USyd).
