Dr Ali Khoddami
School of Life and Environmental Sciences
Ali Khoddami received his BSc in Agricultural Engineering (Food Science and Technology) with distinction at Azad University (Isfahan Branch) (2001), MSc in Food Technology with high distinction from University Putra Malaysia (2009), and Ph.D. in Agriculture (Food Chemistry) from the University of Sydney (2016).
Ali is a food science and technologist professional with extensive expertise in food and feed chemistry, new food product development, adding value to agricultural and aquaculture wastes, and industrial experience in dairy and food conservation sciences. Ali also is a member of a research team working on the quality and application of a range of cereals in food and feed including sorghum, wheat, triticale, barley, and rice.

Ali is a research supervisor for several Honour projects. His student Juliet Garland won first prize in the AEV Richardson Memorial Award – a prestigious national student award – and Chris Russel Medal of Excellence (The state student award) in 2021 for her superb Honours project that upcycled brewers’ spent grain into a functional, value-added food ingredient in nutritious muesli bars.
