We have some parking options for drivers, but we also promote more environmentally friendly ways of getting to campus, such as cycling and using public transport.
There are two main entrances, one on Parramatta Rd and one on City Rd. As the campus is quite large, the best transport option will depend on your destination.
Redfern is a 10-minute walk to the campus. Many students walk this route, and a free shuttle bus runs between Fisher Library and Redfern Station in the evening during semester. Students walking from South Eveleigh and Darlington campus, and vice versa, can use the Southern Concourse at Redfern Station to do so.
Central is a 15-minute walk along City Rd and George St. There are frequent buses from Railway Square to Parramatta Rd and City Rd.
If you are arriving by bus, there are stops at our main entrances on Parramatta Rd and City Rd. Use the campus map to locate the closest bus stop to your destination.
The University operates free bus services that run approximately every 20 minutes between the Fisher Library and Redfern train station.
These services operate all year, apart from weekends, public holidays and the Christmas shut down period. Regular and express services run frequently.
View the bus timetable and the bus route (pdf, 9.1MB).
You can track the bus on the app Transport Me, by selecting Big Bus Co. as the operator.
We have an eight-seater mini bus with full hydraulic wheelchair lift. For more details, call Campus Security on 9351 3487.
Select 'bike parking' on the campus map to find secure bicycle parking stations.
There are three bike repair stations on campus. One located outside the Chemistry Building on Eastern Avenue, another in front of the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre car park on Darlington Campus and one on Western Avenue, on the Grose Farm Lane walkway, between the ovals. These are self-service bicycle repair station with an air pump, allen wrenches, screw drivers and tyre levers.
There is limited parking on the Camperdown/Darlington Campus. The availability of parking at the University varies and in the interests of sustainability we encourage people to use public transport, walk or cycle in by using bicycle parking, safe pedestrian routes, and the campus bus.
Parking is available on the Camperdown/Darlington Campus for staff, students and visitors. There are several carpark buildings, outdoor parking areas, and off-street parking.
The University is a paid parking area at all times
In January 2023, the University introduced Pay As You Go (PAYG) parking system across the Camperdown/Darlington and Mallet Street campuses for both staff, students and service contractors. From this date parking at a reduced tariff (maximum of $5 per day) will need to be paid for through the CellOPark app.
The PAYG system better supports the flexible work and study practices of our staff and students by only requiring staff and students to pay for parking for the days and times they park on campus, instead of on an annualised basis.
Motorcycle, scooter and moped parking on campus is free. Please ensure you are parked in a 'motorcycle only' bay.
If you hold a valid NSW Mobility Parking Scheme permit, you can use the designated disabled parking bays on campus.
You can also park for free in any numbered parking bay, other than those marked with restrictions such as ‘University Owned Vehicles Only’ or ‘Loading Zone’.
Your permit must be displayed clearly at all times.
There is limited parking on Camperdown/Darlington campuses.
Casual parking is available at a rate of $4 per hour, up to a maximum charge of $24 per day. We have a paperless system, using licence plate recognition technology. No parking tickets are required. No paper receipts are provided. You will need to take a photo of the final screen showing a URL address to contact to obtain a parking receipt.
The University provides a number of payment methods to park on campus;
The ‘Alternate Pay Stations Locations’ map located next to all parking meter machines to show the location of all parking meter machines on campus and the type of payment accepted. Please note that the machines do not provide change, and the University does not offer refunds.
If a parking meter machine is not working you will need to locate another parking meter machine to make payment or download the CellOPark app. The University is a paid parking area at all times. Payment must be made to park on campus. Failure to purchase a paid parking session may incur a fine.
NSW road rules apply throughout University campuses and relevant signage and pavement markings are displayed on all entrances to the University campus.
If you or your vehicle is in breach of the rules, an infringement notice can be issued.
This penalty is determined under Australian road rules, not by the University.
Fines are processed by Revenue NSW and are subject to enforcement in the same way as if the offence occurred on a public street.
For details on fines, please visit the Revenue NSW website.
To locate parking spaces on the Camperdown/Darlington Campus, go to MazeMaps and select the icon for ‘Car Parking’, ‘Motorbike Parking' or 'Parking- Accessible'.
Due to ongoing commercial dispute between our parking app provider, CellOPark Australia Pty Ltd trading as Smarter City Solutions (SCS), and the business that provides its parking system technology, the OPark app has been disabled and parking at the University will revert to the CellOPark pay-as-you-go (PAYG) parking app, which has been in use since January 2023.
Although only a minority of University users have transferred to OPark to date, to give additional time for those who need to transition back to CellOPark, the University will continue the amnesty on issuing infringements until 9 am Tuesday 4 February.
Vehicles parked illegally (for example in ‘No stopping’ zones) will still be issued infringements.
The CellOPark app has been reactivated and is available to use again.
Motorbikes, scooters and mopeds can be parked in designated zones at the University and do not need to register via the app.
Most of our community have remained on the CellOPark app and do not need to do anything. Simply keep using the current CellOPark app as usual (more information is included below for new users).
For the small percentage of users who did set up OPark, you will need to transition back to the CellOPark app by no later than 3 February 2025. If you are one of these users, we will be writing to you directly to provide instructions on how to do this. More information for users who used OPark is also available on the parking permits page.
If you deleted the app or your CellOPark account, you will need to re-download it and re-register. If you did not delete your CellOPark account, your information will still be there and ready to use. Instructions for installing the CellOPark app are below.
Download the CellOPark Australia app from the App Store or Google Play and enter your details. Ensure you include your UniKey in the ID field so that you’re recognised as a University staff member and are eligible for the reduced parking rate capped at $5 per day.
If you have deleted the app but not your account, simply download the CellOPark app, enter your mobile number, and log in using your previous credentials.
If you don’t remember your password, click on ‘Forgot Password’ and follow the prompts to reset it.
Check that you have entered the same mobile number you previously used to register on CellOPark.
Staff and students do not need a premium account to access PAYG parking on campus.
CellOPark premium services include unlimited SMS reminders and an iMoved service at $1.99 per vehicle per month. This is undertaken on a 'didn't park, don't pay' basis, meaning that if you haven't used CellOPark in a billing cycle, you will not be charged.
The SMS reminders are sent 15 minutes before parking is due to expire advising you to act. The iMoved service is a feature that helps you to remember to stop a session.
You can opt in or out of the premium service at any time via the profile page of your online account on the desktop site. To access your account via the app:
To opt out, click on Downgrade and confirm.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding CellOPark’s Premium Services, please contact CellOPark Support at support@cellopark.com.au or (02) 8599 9747.

We are aware that some users are concerned about privacy issues and the security of their payment information. SCS has confirmed that payment information is secure and is not stored by the app nor by SCS. Neither SCS nor the CellOPark or OPark apps have or have had access to your payment information as users are redirected to a separate payment gateway that is PCI-DSS compliant and uses a tokenised payment system.
No personal information has been accessed by or shared with an unauthorised third party (the OPark app is owned and was developed by SCS, which is the University’s parking provider).
