Improving global health outcomes in the field of laryngeal and voice disorders

Sydney Voice Lab is advancing research, education, and patient care by:

  • conducting impactful research that translates clinically based studies into practical applications for improving voice care,
  • providing high-quality education and training for clinicians and researchers specialising in laryngeal and voice disorders, as well as general practitioners (GPs), and
  • offering advanced clinical services for patients experiencing voice-related issues.

Since 2017, we have published 87 papers, accumulating over 1,025 citations to date.

Six professional courses offered

We offer professional courses for speech-language pathologists (SLPs), ear, nose, and throat specialists (ENTs), and GPs.

20 voice clinics annually

We host 20 specialised, interdisciplinary voice assessment clinics annually for patients experiencing voice-related issues.

Clinical laryngology fellowships

Our clinical fellowship at Sydney Voice Lab offers a prestigious one-year program designed to prepare qualified ENTs from Australia and around the world for a subspeciality career in laryngology and laryngeal surgery. 

During the fellowship, participants will engage in clinical and research activities that span the breadth of laryngology. 

Special emphasis is placed on the treatment of voice, swallowing, and airway disorders as well as the care of professional voice users. 

Fellows will work closely with several leading laryngologists across multiple clinical settings as well as engage in research projects, fostering opportunities for ongoing collaboration and innovation. 

Observership programs

Our observership programs offer a unique chance to experience firsthand the cutting-edge work we do across our research labs and clinics.

These programs are ideal for anyone curious about our field, especially those contemplating a clinical fellowship or potential collaboration.

A clinical attachment in laryngology is possible for up to four weeks. 

Patient services

The University of Sydney Voice Assessment Clinic provides specialised, interdisciplinary evaluations of laryngeal and voice disorders. 

Established as a teaching facility, our clinic is staffed by leading experts in the field and utilises advanced acoustic, aerodynamic, hearing, and laryngeal imaging technologies. 

Each patient receives a comprehensive consultation involving an ear, nose, and throat surgeon and a speech-language pathologist. 

Together, they perform a series of assessments aimed at delivering a comprehensive diagnosis and tailored, patient-centred care.
