Thesis abstract:

«p»This study aims to review the suitability of the military concept of Mission Command for project management. Mission Command is a decentralised problem-solving method in highly uncertain situations reliant on trust, shared understanding and competence. Numerous management theories and other agencies support or practice it, in whole or part, if not by name. To allow it to be more transportable across different contexts a more general model is developed using the work of social theorists Karl Weick, Pierre Bordieu and Niklas Luhmann. Senior project managers were then interviewed using Critical Incident Technique to understand their encounters with uncertainty.«/p»
