As the name suggests, electrical engineering applies engineering principles into harnessing electricity.

Electrical engineers are responsible for designing the electronic devices, computers, communications systems and power systems that continue to transform society. This covers anything from the networking equipment enabling the internet to the power stations providing electricity to your home.

Enter a future focused field

Electrical engineering is a field that is experiencing rapid growth, with projections showing that the need for engineers in the sector is expanding at an unprecedented rate.

Studying a Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Electrical) allows you to acquire the skills you need to pursue a myriad of different careers. In addition to pure engineering jobs, engineers are valued in many other industries such as banking, consulting and management for their methodical approach to problem solving.

All our undergraduate engineering degrees are embedded with enhanced foundation studies in data and computation (including Python programming). Our students gain the digital and computational skills needed to excel in the emerging digital age.

Throughout your study you will acquire the professional skills to create better sensors and computing devices, more efficient energy networks and the latest innovative communications technology.

These skills will allow you to pursue careers in telecommunications, controls, electronics and systems engineering to name a few.

Select a futuristic specialisation or combine your degree

Our electrical engineering degree is one of the most comprehensive in Australia. When you study electrical engineering with us, you have the option to choose from five different specialisations, all of which focus on a skill set that will be relevant in a continually developing world.

By choosing a specialisation you can gain more in-depth knowledge and experience in an area of interest such as:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Intelligent Information Engineering
  • Internet of Things
  • Power Engineering
  • Telecommunications Engineering

There is also an opportunity for you to study Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This specialisation offers a range of units tailored to different interests including technological innovation, social entrepreneurship, digital disruption as well as sustainability-focused innovation and entrepreneurship.

You can also broaden your career prospects by choosing to study a combined degree in arts, commerce, science, health science, medical science, laws or project management.

Combined degrees are five or five and a half years in length – this means you attain two full qualifications, with the same annual workload as a single degree student.
