Jacaranda Flame Consulting
Gain authentic engineering experience while studying.
Jacaranda Flame Consulting (JFC) is a program run by the Faculty of Engineering. Our unique JFC program provides you with opportunities to work on real projects as a consulting engineer for some of industry's largest organisations.
Our Jacaranda Flame Consulting program offers students studying either an undergraduate engineering degree or Master of Professional Engineering with opportunities to gain important industry experience within a simulated engineering consultancy company.
JFC gives eligible students engineering consulting experience for 6 weeks full time over the winter semester break or 9 weeks full time over the summer semester break.
This unpaid practical experience is available twice a year (Summer and Winter) and undertaken by project teams of 4 to 5 students from across all disciplines of engineering.
Each project team is tasked with creating practical solutions to real engineering problems that have been submitted by leading commercial engineering companies and government organisations.
Student consultants meet with their client organisation at the commencement of the project to understand its needs and agree to timeframes and deliverables.
From there, student consultants are expected to hold client progress meeting throughout the duration of the project, as well as provide their client organisation with:
The outcomes of this project will ultimately be presented to the client organisation for official client sign-off.
Each project is designed to enhance our students understanding about the nature of professional practice whilst also providing a valuable service to the community and industry.
The program is nine weeks in total.
Current students are advised to contact us for upcoming opportunities to participate via engineering.jfc@sydney.edu.au.
