Professional Engagement Program

The program redefining professional and industry work experience
Our award-winning Professional Engagement Program aims to develop your workplace competencies and transferable employability skills that companies look for in engineering graduates.

Our Professional Engagement Program (PEP) is embedded within all our undergraduate engineering degrees accredited by Engineers Australia.

The process of professional engagement starts from your very first day of study with us and continues throughout the duration of your engineering degree.

In lieu of the traditional 12-week summer placements between third and fourth years, PEP requires our students to complete a minimum 600 hours of in-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including:

  • industry site visits,
  • engineering and computer science conferences,
  • non-engineering extra-curricular activities such as volunteering,
  • work experience, and
  • a minimum six-week internship during your final year.

This combination of experiences is designed to enhance your technical engineering-focused skills development, transferable skills development and professional engineering practice in industry.

Self-reflection and peer review are also both central to the program’s success, as it encourages our engineering students to draw links between their experiences and learning to purposefully identify where they have opportunity to develop interpersonal and professional skills.

Student progress is monitored and assessed through a series of workshops that must be completed every semester.
