Ivan Roberts Scholarship now open
Two postgraduate scholarships available to support domestic and international Sydney Law School students and graduates.
Applications close on 12 August 2021.
The late Ivan Roberts has left a legacy that will support ongoing postgraduate study at Sydney Law School. The annual scholarship was established from a bequest received in 1985, to support students of the Sydney Law School to undertake postgraduate study.
The Scholarship is valued at $50K for one year and there are 2 scholarships available this semester.
The scholarship is open to domestic and international Sydney Law School students and graduates who are:
- about to graduate from their Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor at the University of Sydney, or have graduated from a Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor from the University of Sydney within the last two years
- have applied or have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a postgraduate coursework degree or research degree within the Sydney Law School at the University of Sydney.
About the scholarship, Prof Simon Bronitt, Dean and Head of Sydney Law School said this:
“Top Postgraduate Programs overlooked by Sydney Law Graduates – don’t forget your alma mater! As a law student in the 1980s, the thought of postgraduate study never crossed my mind until one of my lecturers, fresh from postgraduate study himself, suggested I should consider this option. Pursuit of your own set of interests, asking and defining your own thesis questions, and sharing that intellectual journey with outstanding mentors, provides an opportunity to develop new skills and even open up future careers never previously considered such as policy work, law reform or academia."
The newly reframed Ivan Roberts Scholarship supports our own students to choose a path less travelled, and pursue their postgraduate passions right here in Sydney Law School.
