Sydney ranked in world's top 50 universities

The University has ranked among the top 50 universities globally every year since the QS rankings were established in 2004.

“Research and education excellence are part of the University of Sydney’s DNA. These results continue our strong standing as a world leader in research and education,” said Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr Michael Spence.

The rankings, produced by global higher education consultancy QS Quacquarelli Symonds, rank the world’s top 1000 universities.

With an overall score of 77.8, the University of Sydney ranked third nationally and 14^th in the Asia-Pacific.

Six indicators are used to compile the ranking including:

1. Academic reputation
2. Employer reputation
3. Citations per faculty
4. Faculty/student ratio
5. International faculty ratio
6. International student ratio

For academic and employer reputation, Sydney scored 97.5 and 96.4 respectively.

“Our research outcomes are improving and our colleagues are collaborating in innovative ways on multidisciplinary initiatives that are producing extraordinary benefits for Australia and the world,” said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Duncan Ivison.

“We are incredibly proud of the University’s high-quality research, which is being recognised on the global stage.”

Sydney maintained its position as 25^th in the world for the academic reputation indicator, which holds the highest weight of QS ranking metrics.

Today’s rankings are the sixteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings, in which Australia is the 6th-most-represented university location in the world.
