«p»By and large, clinical psychology asks us to consider the individual subject as unitary, independent and rational. Moreover, in clinical practice, psychologists, as scientist-practitioners, are believed to be able to transcend their own cultural lens and shepherd their clients out of trouble by accessing a stable reality that ought to re-orient any erroneous beliefs.«/p» «p»The psychology of cultural semiotics transgresses these assumptions by arguing that 'reality' can only be accessed through a mediated layer of cultural meanings or signs. As such, in order to fully understand suffering, fear, and distress, we needn't look deep inside the psyche, but can look to the signs that envelope our cultures.«/p» «p»This research, emerging from the earliest days of the pandemic, looks at what cultural meanings and discourses emerge in the field of mental health care to «/p»«/p»«/p»
