About homestays

What is a homestay?

A homestay is a cultural exchange between a student and a local individual or family. The host provides accommodation and support for an agreed-upon period and rate (rent). Homestays can be tailored to provide meals, assistance and other activities.

Where are homestays located?

Homestays are located within a maximum of 60 minutes by public transport (including walking time) to the University of Sydney.

Who can live here?

Any student who is enrolled at the University of Sydney.

How much will it cost?

Homestays are an affordable accommodation option. Students first pay a matching fee to the homestay provider, currently $380. 

There are then two Homestay packages available:  

  • Meals included: $415 per week
  • No meals included: $345 per week

The meals option provides students with two meals a day (breakfast and dinner), seven days a week.

What's included?

Each student will have access to an appropriately private room that can be comfortably used for sleeping and studying. Utilities are included in the rate with other inclusions below:

What facilities are available?

As a student living in homestay, you will have access to shared areas of the premises, including access to a lockable bathroom and toilet, kitchen, laundry and living areas.
