Dr Jody Watts is an educator and researcher with expertise in Human Computer Interaction (HCI). She holds a PhD in Design (HCI) from the University of Wollongong (Australia) and a BCA (Design/Hons) from the University of Wollongong (Australia). Her research examines human, nonhuman and more-than-human agents, and their agency, as active participants in design.
  • More-than human design and designers
  • Appearance-based agency of visual, material and digital things
  • HCI with a focus on relationships between humans and their digital things
  • Feminist New Materialism in the design context

Designing for sustainment

I am available to provide research supervision in projects that align with my areas of research interest:

  • More-than human design and designers
  • Appearance-based agency of visual, material and digital things
  • HCI with a focus on relationships between humans and their digital things
  • Feminist New Materialism in the design context
  • Design pedagogy

Research projects I'm interested in supervising include:
  • Application of Feminist New Materialism
Applying concepts from Feminist New Materialism to a design context (nano, micro, meso, macro) as a speculation and provocation for expanding education, research and practice in the field.
  • AI generated images
Exploring the agency of AI generated images by investigating how these visual, digital things make meaning and exert influence.
  • Research though Design
Following a responsible design thinking process, prototype a speculative solution for a burning design education, social design or visual communication issue
